THERESA LEMON

Theresa, a Ngan’gikurunggurr speaker born. c. 1970, lives at Peppimenarti with her family.

Theresa’s bold, linear mark-making emerges from the strong tradition of weaving in Peppimenarti. She often paints mat weavings and representations of weaving twine fashioned from sand-palm. Her work is distinguished from the other artists by her use of geometric forms and vibrant colour.

Theresa was a founding artist of Durrmu Arts; along with Regina Pilawuk Wilson, Theresa represented the community at the 2000 Pacific Arts Festival in Noumea. This trip instigated the womens’ interest in trying acrylic painting and printmaking, to complement their weaving work.

Since 2000, Theresa has woven and painted artworks that have been included in numerous exhibitions around Australia and overseas.
